TOCWOC – A Civil War Blog

This Odds & Ends is going out while I’m in LA on a business trip.  I’ll probably either be packing up our booth from the Trade Show or on a plane home when you read this.  Good thing you get to do some Civil War related reading while I’m away! 😉

• Old Picture of the Day presents a picture of a military telegraph wagon during the Siege of Petersburg.

• I don’t know how long this will last due to copyright concerns, but here’s a YouTube link showing the Battle of the Crater as presented in the movie Cold Mountain.

• Raoul Pop and his wife visit Antietam Battlefield and take a plethora of pictures.

• A Battle of Gettysburg memorial shoot will occur in Hawaii of all places on July 6, 2008.  I never thought my interest in the Civil War might one day give me an excuse to go to Hawaii!  Now we’re talking…

• Hop in the ol’ RV and check out the Battle of Lookout Mountain.

• This Eclectic Life explores the actions of “The Angel of Marye’s Heights”, Richard Rowland Kirkland, who was later killed at the Battle of Chickamauga.

• Scott Mingus posts on wargaming the Battle of Chancellorsville using miniatures

• The Osprey Graphic History series is “[a]imed at a young audience with the intention of fostering an interest in history.”  One of the volumes, Gamble For Victory: Battle of Gettysburg, is discussed on a forum.

• Civil War Librarian takes a look at Gary Gallagher’s new book Causes Won, Lost and Forgotten.  Gallagher recently appeared on Civil War Talk Radio.

• Goodbye UK, Hello World! relates the tale of Clear Island, the southernmost point in Ireland and the first place in Europe to know that the American Civil War had started.

• Read former slave Jourdon Anderson’s letter to his former master, Colonel Henry Anderson.

• Thaddeus Lowe, a balloonist for the Army of the Potomac, had at least one descendant who shared his love of the air.

• Wrote on the Ground, a gaming blog, reviews Gary Grigsby’s War Between the States

• Cavman Considers, well…considers Gods and Generals

• Delorean car owners visit Gettysburg, but not in 1863…

• …and one of those owners had a ghostly experience.
