One such is Daniel Grey.<\/p>\n<p>You see, in 1863 Abe Lincoln began to run short of men and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.weeklyworldnews.com\/?p=39\">drafted babies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cA fierce patriot, Lincoln felt that all Americans should do their part in the war,\u201d said Civil War historian Daniel Grey. \u201cThat\u2019s why the new infantry consisted of drafted infants.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the babies in this new infantry weren\u2019t required to fight, they did serve other functions. They were first used in military observation balloons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHot air balloons were used for reconnaissance,\u201d said Grey. \u201cThe babies were employed as ballast.<\/p>\n<p>Although the babies were strapped to the outside of the gondolas, surveyors had to keep their ears plugged to block out all the crying. The babies were quite helpful in keeping the balloons from flying away.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Their drool also kept sabers from rusting.<\/p>\n<p>It must be true, because it&#8217;s on the web and in the <em>Weekly World News<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Next\u2014was Judson Kilpatrick an alien?
