August 11, 1864

Lieut.  Gen. Jubal Early, CSA, moves his forces from Winchester, VA, up the Shenandoah Valley toward Cedar Creek as Maj. Gen. Philip Sheridan, USA, who recently replaced Maj. Gen. David Hunter, USA, marches with the newly formed US Army of the Shenandoah against Early.
