New Blog Idea: Today In The Petersburg Campaign

Chronological Siege of Petersburg Entries

As I was driving home from work the other day, I started thinking about short, almost daily blog entries I could post with a minimum of effort but that also were informative and interesting. My thoughts turned to Ron Mosocco’s book Chronological Tracking of the American Civil War per the Official Records of the War of the Rebellion. It uses the Official Records to provide a day by day account of the various newsworthy military events during the Civil War. Since I have become an avid student of the Petersburg Campaign, I’ve decided to start a “Today In The Petersburg Campaign” series of blog entries. Each entry will contain the date, along with entries from Mr. Mosocco’s book for that date pertaining to the Bermuda Hundred Campaign, the Siege of Petersburg, Cold Harbor, and operations in the Shenandoah Valley from the Lynchburg Campaign on. Basically if it happened around Richmond-Petersburg, or if it involved Early’s II Corps and Sheridan’s Valley Army, it is included. I’ve contacted Mr. Mosocco for permission to reproduce entries from his book, and he has graciously agreed to the request. All entries will be in bold, and it will be duly noted that the entries are the copyrighted work of the author and used only with his permission.

For those of you interested, individuals can order Chronological Tracking of the American Civil War per the Official Records of the War of the Rebellion here, and each blog entry will also contain a link to information on the book. Look for the first entry in this new series this Thursday, May 4, 2006. Other entries will follow almost daily.
