Van Dorn's Grand Junction Gambit

Note: There is no AI

Tom DeHoff

This is a hypothetical situation. It assumes that instead of the attack against Iuka and the subsequent attack against Corinth, Van Dorn and Price do nothing. Halleck sensing the inactivity decides to strip most of Rosecrans' force from Grant’s command and ship them off the Buell to defend against Bragg’s invasion (exactly what Van Dorn was ordered to prevent happening) Van Dorn sensing that he needs to do something decides to isolate Corinth and Iuka but attacking the RR at Grand Junction and the towns of LaGrange and Saulsberry. He hopes to force the Yanks out of the fortress that Corinth into the open for a fair fight. What he doesn’t know is that Grant is at Lagrange seeing to some business and Rosecarns is on the way back now that Bragg is headed back to Tennessee. Can the Rebs sieze enough before the Yanks return?

Dierk Walter

This was an idea that was definitely needed and Dierk came through with flying colors. As a Union player who has played the two-day historical version of Shiloh, I really appreciate Dierk's effort here to keep the opening rounds of the game from degenerating into a surround and destroy mission by the Confederates. He attempts to simulate Union surprise and confusion by other means than simply fixing them in place to be captured. Note also that since he is using the Corinth engine, fixing is not as restrictive as in the BG games. Any enemy unit that comes within 5 hexes that the fixed unit can see will result in the release of the fixed unit.

Logan's Crossroads (Mill Springs)

Note: AI available

NEW 04/08/03

Rolf Hall
The Battle of Logan's Crossroads (Mill Springs) in Kentucky ocurred on January 19, 1862. What was to become a Union Division in the Union Army of the Ohio (and later Cumberland) under George Thomas faced a Confederate force under Felix Zollicoffer. The Rebels did well at first, but Zollicoffer was killed, throwing them into confusion. This looks like an interesting, short little battle to play, and Rolf has created a few variants to explore a few what-ifs.

Middle Creek

NEW 08/12/03

Rolf Hall
The Battle of Middle Creek in Kentucky ocurred on January 10, 1862. This is another in Rolf's ongoing series of smaller early ACW battles fought in the state of Kentucky. Middle Creek was more of a skirmish than a battle, but the potential for a heavier fight was there. Union troops under future President James Garfield took on Confederates under Humphrey Marshall. The result was a Union victory that secured Eastern Kentucky for the North.

Updated 01/12/03

Chris Hopper

Chris took some of Dierk Walter's Shiloh conversions for Corinth and converted them to the Norris-Frost system. The latest update fixes problems with Confederate units displaying Union flags, and makes some minor adjustments to the Parameter Data, i.e. 700 men or 6 units per hex.
