I have a feeling that I was trained by one of the very best, and I had the added bonus of being trained by my future Army Commander.

Draw

I don't remember too much from this one. Drew did push me back but my reinforcements came up and I held just in time, thus earning the draw.

This was a fun scenario. I managed to get across the bridges and it was all over but the shouting after that.

Lt. Drew Stone

Austrian (Prussian) Major Victory

Major Victory

I forged ahead aggressively in this one, and by the end Drew was retreating off of the west end of the map. I managed to surround a lot of his skirmishers and a few formed units and took a major victory out of it.

This battle was basically three separate battles. I had control in the west and pushed aggressively. The center was a crap shoot and the eastern end belonged to Drew. Fortunately for me the western end was by far the largest battle and hence I managed to win a major victory.

Drew was burnt out on this game I think and maybe also had some real life issues to deal with. He tendered his sword after only four turns and the campaign was over.

I couldn't resist the temptation of attacking in the south, and like my historical counterparts, I was thoroughly routed. This was a very well-played game by Drew.

Général M. Francisco Palomo
Landshut* - CPE

Paco shocked me with his razor sharp tactics. He ZOC'd a few of my regiments who were crossing the bridges and fought many skillful delaying actions to keep this at a draw. I was left far behind for the rest of the Camapaign.

Col. Ernie Sands
Landshut* - CPE

Austrian (Prussian) Major Victory

Ernie also managed to ZOC some of my boys, but with some luck I got across the River in force and trapped enough of his boys to save the day for me.

I don't remember the details, but I was whipped very badly in this one. I think it's probably selective memory. You know, remember the good days and go to a therapist for these!
Z505
Major Drew Stone
Smolensk* - NRC

Draw
NA
I pulled all of my men out of Smolensk and across the river. Then Drew's artillery started inching the game towards a French Minor Victory so I offered a draw and Drew accepted.

Col. Ernie Sands
Abensberg* - CPE

Austrian (Prussian) Major Victory

I did the same thing here as in the Abensberg game against Drew. I pushed ahead aggressively, separated Ernie's boys into two groups, and dealt with each separately.

Major Drew Stone
Stragan Creek* - NRC

Draw

NA
I was basically just retreating the whole time so Drew offered a draw and I accepted.

Z103
Col. Ernie Sands

Austrian (Prussian) Minor Victory

This was hands down the wildest game I have ever played. There was no front line in this one. Our units were a tangled mess in the center of the map. Ernie was getting ZOC kills in the west while I was doing the same in the east. I had just enough to pull out a minor victory, but who knows how this one would go if we played it again!
Z505
Major Drew Stone
Screening Vyazma* - NRC

Draw
NA
I think Drew felt sorry for me because my troops were in horrible initial positions. He offered me a draw and I accepted, although I probably shouldn't have let him do that. He easily could have had at the very least a minor win.
Z104
Général M. Francisco Palomo

French Major Victory

Paco destroyed me again. Did I mention he has the game system completely mastered? He caved in my left and was driving them off of the map when I surrendered.
Z505
Major Drew Stone
Gzhatsk* - NRC
30
Draw
NA
Drew and I were engaged in a slugfest in this 1813 version of Borodino. Both of our armies were exhausted after only 30 of 56 rounds. Drew inflicted over 125,000 casualties on me, and I countered with around 100,000. This battle was unlike any I've ever played before in terms of sheer size. I had control of over 200,000 men at the start, and turns were taking me almost an hour to play even without looking at the replay of Drew's turn.

Z104
Général M. Francisco Palomo
2nd Eckmuhl* - CPE

French Major Victory

I knew I was licked before it started and begged Paco to let me quit and move on to Italy. He graciously accepted and ended my misery.

Z104
Général M. Francisco Palomo

French Major Victory

I actually thought I had a fighting chance in this one. Think again. My boys were streaming wholesale for the rear by turn 7, when I offered my sword in surrender.

Z103
Col. Ernie Sands
Trapping Davout* - CPE
32
Austrian (Prussian) Major Victory
NA
This was still another wild affair between Ernie and myself. I had one Korps in each corner of the map, trying to trap Davout and his force. Ernie decided to hold my 2 southern Korps at bay with a covering force and march the bulk of his forces to the north in an effort to knock out half of my divided forces. After trying to hold far too much ground, I retreated my two northern Korps to the northwest and northeast corners of the map. The fighting that occurred was vicious, and Ernie managed to drive I Korps off of the map in the northwest and captured many men. I had a much better time of it in the northeast, however, and my ZOC kills there and on the southern end of the field proved the difference in this one.
Z450
Capt. Glyn Hargreaves
Smolensk* - NRC
14
Draw
NA
This is basically the same battle I fought against Drew. I really should have kept playing because as Glyn said it might have been worse than Fredericksburg had he tried to assault across the river. The next Frenchie I play here won't get off so lucky...

Z104
Général M. Francisco Palomo

French Major Victory

I was whipped in every way possible. My hats off to the General. He killed me and fully deserves all the praise he gets. I only hope that someday my mastery of the HPS Napoleonic games is half as complete as his.
Z450
Capt. Glyn Hargreaves
Stragan Creek* - NRC
32
Austrian (Russian) Major Victory
NA
I was able to hold the few crossing points of a creek and exit most of my men off of the map for a major victory. This battle really has very little effect on the overall outcome of the camapign, but it was certainly fun watching my plan succeed so well. Glyn almost managed too ruin thiungs late when he busted across the creek, but he was just a little too late.
Z505
Brig. Gen. Drew Stone
Moscow* - NRC
16
Draw
NA
Drew and I both came into this one with greatly reduced armies after the bloodbath at Gzhatsk. Luckily for me, I had the walls of Moscow to fall back to and was able to produce the stalemate I needed in order to keep the French from winning the campaign. Drew was driving me handily in a few spots but I was able to get in some key counterattacks on the far right and left flanks that saved the day for Mother Russia.

As a member of the Prussian Army, I really didn't like being assigned to fight as the French. Add to this the fact that the battle we had to fight was Teugn-Hausen, and we never had a chance in this one. Give our opponents credit. They used the correct tactics to ensure Austrian success, but I wish a slightly more balanced scenario would have been used.

This was our final battle of the Russian Campaign. I couldn't hold my brave serfs back and decided to attack piecemeal. BAD Idea! Drew handled the defense expertly and I decided to offer him my sword.

After 102 grueling turns this massive campaign ended in a draw. Every battle except the last one also ended in a draw. In the end, I had enough to hold Drew back from Moscow, but could not drive him completely off of Russian soil.

I was able to stall Glyn in Vyazma long enough to pull away in retreat with most of my army intact and preserve the draw.

Landshut is pretty much unwinnable for the Bavarians. Jon did a good job delaying me for awhile, even through incredibly bad luck, and was able to extricate most of his Bavarian Division to fight again another day.
