This
was your typical South Mountain fight, with the strength of Union numbers
proving too much in the end.

Tony Hill is one tough hombre!
He surrounded and destroyed every unit of reinforcements I had. He obviously
knew the scenario well and used that knowledge effectively. The b variant
of this scenario, which we played, isn't as friendly to the Union as the
a variant is.

This one wasn't really a
major win for me. Tim and I failed to clarify a few touchy points before
the game and he decided to give me the major victory half way through
when it became obvious we couldn't agree on what to do. I still feel we
should've just called it a draw, and I owe Tim one for this. Unfortunately
he has since left the club.

Tony again pounded me. This

ended pretty early.

Juan was a very good opponent

Tim and I were again having

This battle certainly favors
the Rebs, but in my first shot at it I didn't do too poorly. Jerry fought
well and fully deserved the victory.

Fld.Lt. Parker Stanton

Battle of Jackson* - CC

Rebel
Major Victory

I don't want to talk about
this one. Parker knew the scenario VERY well and surrounded guys left
and right, and eventually took every objective except the one in Jackson
itself. This is one of the worst performances I've had in the club.

Fld.Lt. Roger Hulinsky
|
Battle of Corinth* - CC
|
82
|
Draw
|
20.5
|
Roger chose the "attack Corinth
immediately" option and nearly succeeded in taking me out. I burned all
the bridges to force him to go around the long way, and when Roger had
to quit due to personal reasons, we were getting ready to have a slugfest
for the town itself. I can't really say which way this one would've went
had we played it out,

Col. Jerry Nelson
|
Battle of Bethel Station*
- CC
|
22
|
Rebel
Minor Victory
|
5.28
|
This one REALLY favors the
Rebs. I had infantry scheduled to come on to the map right where I needed
them but their release percentage must be slim to none because they never
did show up. Jerry did all the right things and held all the objectives
at the end.

Dec3171

Col. Jerry Nelson
|
Battle of Corinth* - CC
|
95
|
Union Major Victory
|
27.6
|
To be fair, I must admit
this probably favors the North. I had been given time to dig fortifications
because of all the Rebel cavalry raids, so I was ready when Jerry came
calling on Corinth. He attacked the southwest side, broke into the fortifications,
and nearly won the day. Luckily for me, my boys didn't rout much and my
batteries were able to form on hills behind my lines and pound Jerry's
boys mercilessly. That proved the difference in this fight.

Battle of Iuka* - CC

12

Rebel
Minor Victory

This was the battle where
the Union needs to run away to survive. I managed to get clean away and
Tim took the Iuka objective hex for the minor victory.

Battle of Iuka* - CC

Rebel
Major Victory
|
5.94

Ned was a little craftier,
and my troops failed to release as quickly as in the other Iuka battle.
The end result was that some Rebs managed to sneak around and cut off
some Union troops from the exit hex, thus giving Ned the major victory.

Battle of Little Yellow Creek*
- CC

2

Draw

Ned decided simultaneously
with me that he didn't like what he saw, so we agreed to a draw after
only 2 turns. Yes, that's only half of a point in the column to the left.

Jan3414
|
Gen. Ned Simms
|
Battle of Corinth* - CC
|
81
|
Draw
|
20.25
|
I thought Ned had me beat
early on. He attacked Corinth from the northeast. I had decided to defend
in the town itself, and had foolishly put my artillery on the front lines.
After a few turns, the artillery was completely gone and Ned had pushed
me two thirds of the way through town. I managed to shore up my line and
the larger Union regiments began to take their toll. After I had gotten
it back to a draw, Ned broke off contact and from my cavalry scouting
I deduced he had gone south and west over the river near Corinth.

Union Major Victory

This one favors the Union
big time. If you're a Reb and you're fighting this one, run away as fast
as you can to the exit hex, or you have no shot at winning.

The first fight between Jerry

he would have probably gotten a major victory.

A Bellyful O' Fightin' -

2.4

Our fourth BGC fight. This
was another case of great misdirection by Jerry. I thought he was heading

into my center like a tornado, thoroughly beating me on this field.

Capt. Steve Barrett |
The Rock of Chickamauga -
BGC 16a

Union
Major Victory
|
7.16
|
This was my second attempt
at this battle, and I put my prior knowledge to good use. Add to this
the fact that Steve lost D.H. Hill early on due to Hill taking a road
directly next to my boys instead of taking the woods, and I had a serious
advantage to begin with. Then I managed to take out Longstreet with a
long-range artillery shot and that was all she wrote.

Our second fight using BGN.
This one literally went down to the last turn. I made a mistake which
allowed Terry to melee a major objective hex, thus dropping me from a
major victory to a major defeat. I have to give Terry credit for discovering
my mistake and making me pay for it.

Rebel
Major Victory

Our third fight using BGN.
I was still steaming over the last loss and attacked recklessly, which
is a bad idea in this scenario. Needless to say, Terry took full advantage
and fully deserved to win this one.

Friends, Hell! - BGBR 08
|
11
|
Rebel
Major Victory
|
2.42
|
This was a pretty wild fight,
and I had a lot of success in taking out Charles' artillery. The only
problem with that, and it was a MAJOR problem, was that his infantry lay
immediately behind the artillery and would come swarming out giving the
Rebel yell, ZOCing and routing my poor lads in the process. I probably
needed to wait for more troops to release. I could never cover my flanks
when Charles launched his well-executed attacks.

Major Victory

Our fourth fight using BGN.
I had the numbers again in this one, and for once it was smart to be highly
aggressive. Terry did what he could, but the Union numbers prevailed in
the end.

Night Seemed To Quake &

Draw
|
1.25

Our fifth fight using BGC.
This was a pretty dumb scenario. Night attacks don't work well in the
BG system so Jerry just did the smart thing and stayed where he was, thus
giving us each a draw.

Union
Major Victory

Our sixth fight in our "Clash

long odds, my men withstood repeated melees in the opening turns and I
was able to keep Jerry from breaking through at any point in my lines.

The Bloodiest Morning - BGN

24
|
Rebel
Major Victory
|
5.28
|
Our sixth fight using BGN.
This was one of those games where you want to throw your computer out
the window of a 50 story building. I had a major victory for the better
first third of the game, was slowly whittled down and still barely had
a minor victory with 600+ points going into Terry's last turn. Terry managed
to bring me down to a -36 and a major defeat. That must've been one heck
of a last turn! I still can't bring myself to watch the replay. At first
I didn't want to give Terry credit because I was extremely frustrated,
but that's what this site is for. He stuck to his game plan even when
I was winning big and managed to snatch victory from me at the very, very
end in one of the most see-saw games I've ever played.

Perryville - BGS Perryville
Mod 01h

Union Major Victory
|
9.4
|
I thought I was in big trouble
when Steve withdrew to the town of Perryville. I sent in my attack columns
in waves and pounded his lines until his boys routed. Then it was a matter
of mopping the survivors up. Steve had a good idea on the defensive, but
I probably got just a little lucky with some of the key melees.

You Are Turned - BGBR 06
|
34

Rebel
Major Victory

7.48
|
I thought I had a pretty
good setup in this one. I had time to dig in, but my line was not well
chosen, Charles drove in my right, and also managed to capture a key victory
hex on the last turn away from the main action. The result was a well-deserved
major victory on Charles' part. He is a tough foe and we are having some
tremendous clashes in this replay of all the Bull Run scenarios.

This is a great idea by Jess
Norris and Dierk Walter. Basically there are a ton of players in this
game, each representing a single General. We send orders through Jess,
who is the moderator, and he is the one who actually moves the units on
the game map. Each General only has so many command points, so he can
only issue orders to a few units, and never to each individual regiment
under his command. We will play a turn a week, and possibly speed this
up as Jess gets more comfortable in his moderator role. If your interest
is piqued and you wish to join the game as an aide-de-camp (ie. a replacement
player), send an e-mail to Jess
Norris or Dierk Walter and
they'll get you set up. Read the rules HERE.

Steve had a very good plan
set up for this one. He retreated across Stone's River after building

he slammed into them and drove them back. This particualr battle could
be tough for the Union unless they can stop any withdrawals and cause
a lot of casualties on the way.

Wow. The Grey Ghost is one
tough Son of a Gun. I didn't do the AoJ any favors in this opening round
match in our Tidewater Campaign. My I Corps boys, including the vaunted
Black Hats, were thrown back in confusion and disorder. I offered my sword
to Gen. Thomas and limped back to the Union base at Urbanna. Hopefully
I make a much better fight of it in round 2!

bad about him beating me, because he does it in such a gracious way.
