Carlisle is a purely fictional OOB of what might have happened on June 30th, 1863 - and Gettysburg was never fought!! THE SETTING General Lee's northernmost fighting force in his invasion of Pennsylvania was Major General Richard Ewell's powerful 2nd Corps. It was encamped in Carlisle, PA on the 29th of June. Just southeast of Harrisburg approximately 22 miles away. General Ewell had decided to move his Corps N.E. in the direction of Harrisburg on the morning of June 30th. He had heard no word from J.E.B. Stuart and possesed no cavalry force of his own. Informed from his few scouts he was certain that the way to Harrisburg was open and decided to take advantage of it. It was hard to feed his 20,000 man Corps and was certain that a hard days march would alleviate this problem from what his corp could plunder from a bigger town like Harrisburg. The local population was hostile and he could not count on General Lee's supply trains/wagons further to the south and a prize like Harrisburg - being so close was a prize he did not want to pass up. General Ewells 2nd Corps consisted of three powerful Divisions. 1st Division - under the command of Major General Jubal Early 2nd Division - under the command of Major General Edward Johnson 3rd Division - under the command of Major General Robert Rodes With help from J.N.O Buford's Cavalry, in particular - reports from elements from Colonel William Gamble's Brigade - Major General John Reynolds was well informed of Ewell's position and strength. He could not count on any of Bufords Cavalry as he had split his force with some brigades chasing the whereabouts of J.E.B. Stuart further North and others scouting the positions of Lee's main body of forces further South. Well aware of what he was going up against Reynolds (one of the Union's best Generals) knew his Corps (3 small divisions) would not be enough. So he was given control of General Meade's XI Corp's and it's three additional Divisions. This gave him a total of six Divisions and all thier big artillery. He rolled all six into his corps and marched for a position between Carlisle and Harrisburg. General Reynolds 1st Corps now consisted of 6 Divisions. 1st Division - under the command of Brigadier General James Wadsworth 2nd Division - under the command of Brigadier General J.C. Robinson 3rd Division - under the command of Brigadier General Thomas Rowley 4th Division - under the command of Brigadier General Francis Barlow 5th Division - under the command of Brigadier General Adolph Von Steinwehr 6th Division - under the command of Major General Carl Shurz General Reynolds information was correct and he caught Ewell's Corp somewhere between Carlisle and Harrisburg.....who would prevail................. NOTES These forces are just about evenly matched. The Artillery has been greatly reduced - making this a very good manuevering game. It has been playtested extensively. This game is MEANT to be played on a LARGE scale. I cannot say what the breakup of forces you will have to deal with if you play on Small or Medium Battle options This game will play will all patched versions of the game up to and including 2.53 SPECIAL CHANGES YANKS: All ammo wagons now have the LARGE US Flag instead of the the small cavalry flag. As do all Battery commanders. All Union battery's have the red crossed-cannon flag (which I personally like - and give them a distinctive look on the battlefield) REB'S All ammo wagons now have the LARGE Stars and Bars instead of the the small cavalry flag. As do all Battery commanders. UNITS Some great units are attached to these opposing forces - The Union: Brigadier General Solomon Meredith's BLACK HATS!
