Command: Jackson's Corps, Army of Norther Virginia (Maj Gen Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson) Time: 5.30 p.m. 28 August 1862 Length of play: 1 Hour (1730-1830) Weather: 800 yards visibility (5-overcast to repilicate dusk) Background: Maj General Thomas Jackson had concentrated his corps in the vicinity of Stony Ridge north of Groveton 27-28 August 1862. He had just completed a successful raid on the Union supply depot at Manassas. His march around the Union Army of Virginia the previous week had been successful in unhinging General John Pope's defense of the Rappahannock, and enabled a campaign of maneuver to be commenced by General Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. General Pope saw an opportunity in Jackson's raid--to crush a portion of the enemy before the rest could assist. Thus on the evening of 28 August, Pope's various corps were moving on Centreville. Pope believed it was at this place that Jackson was concentrating. Brig Gen Rufus King's 1st Division, III Corps (McDowell), while on the march to Centreville, was about to discover the error of this intelligence. Situation: As Jackson, you command significant elements from all three of the divisions of your corps as you try to destroy King's Division. When the game starts, your three division commanders (Taliafero, Ewell, and AP. Hill) are at your location. Four of your brigades are in reserve: Early, Forno, Johnson, and Field. You can activate them by "taking command". If you do though--you are a half-stepper (you can win the fight without them--they did not participate in the actual battle). Notes on Play: When the came starts, receive the reports, then "take command" of your batteries and get them moving into position before you start giving orders to your divisions and brigades. The 15th LA is moving to establish a skirmish line in the vicinity of Brawner's Farm to cover any batteries sent to that vicinity.
