Command: 1st Division, III Corps, Army of Virginia (Brig Gen Rufus King) Time: 5:20 p.m. 28 August 1862 Length of play: 1 hour, 10 minutes (1720-1830) Weather = 800 yards visibility Background: You are Brig Gen Rufus King, Commander, 1st Division, III Corps, Army of Virginia. Your division has been on the road for many days--marching and countermarching--as General Pope tries to maneuver the Army of Virgina into a position to destroy Maj Gen "Stonewall" Jackson's Corps. You had an epileptic seizure earlier in the day and are now with your staff resting by the road side as your division passes enroute to Centreville. Situation: The 1st Division, III Corps is on the road enroute to Centreville, VA. Mission: Continue to advance your division EAST down the Warrenton Turnpike to Centreville. Upon arrival, encamp and be prepared to fight a.m. 29 August. Orders will follow once all the divisions of III Corps are up and the situation with Jackson in the Centreville area has been developed sufficiently. Forces Available: Your command consists of x4 Brigades of Infantry, x4 Batteries of Artillery, and x1 Cavalry Regiment. The order of march for your units is as follows: 1st Rhode Island Cavalry Regiment, 14th Brooklyn Infantry Regiment, Hatch's Brigade (-) & Campbell's Battery, Gibbon's Brigade & Reynolds Battery, Doubleday's Brigade & Gerrish's Battery, and finally, Patrick's Brigade with Monroe's Battery.
