TOCWOC Reader Tools: How to Use the ShareThis Feature

Note: This post is one of a series on TOCWOC Reader Tools,  tools which allow you the reader to better navigate through what is a rapidly growing blog to find/do exactly what you came here for.

I thought I’d give readers a brief look at the new ShareThis feature I’ve implemented here at TOCWOC – A Civil War Blog.  ShareThis is an exciting tool because it allows you the reader to do a LOT of things with TOCWOC blog entries after you’ve read them.  At the end of each entry, you will see a green ShareThis logo with the words “ShareThis” behind it.  Check out the end of this post for an example.

Say you like a blog entry and want to share it with friends.  The ShareThis tool (appropriately named, isn’t it?) allows you to do this in a variety of ways:

  1. Share the TOCWOC blog entry at a Social Networking site like StumbleUpon, Digg, Twitter, etc.: By default you will see a list of Social Networking sites after left clicking on the ShareThis button.  Left click on the Social Network of your choice to add a TOCWOC blog entry to that site.  This allows many more people who share an interest in history to view these posts as well.  The authors of TOCWOC can’t spread the word alone, we need the help of you the reader!
  2. Post the TOCOWC blog entry on your own Social Networking page at sites like Facebook and MySpace: Left click on the ShareThis button and then left click on Post to choose a site to post the blog entry to.
  3. Email the TOCWOC blog entry to a friend: If you know others who might enjoy a TOCWOC blog entry, left click on the ShareThis button and then left click on the “Send/Email” tab.  You can email your friends directly or through some social networking sites.

That is a LOT of functionality from one tiny button, and I encourage you to use it in the future.

If you like a TOCWOC blog entry, by all means share it with the world.  Please also consider going back and sharing other blog entries you have enjoyed here in the past. Check out the Top Posts area in the right sidebar for a head start on going back through the TOCWOC archives.
