Greetings from Louisiana. By way of introduction, my name is Robert M. Webb and I have been invited to contribute some articles to this blog.
I was born in Mississippi, but spent most of my childhood up through high school in Grand Junction, TN. where my family has lived since about 1835. Students of the Western Theatre of the war will know this as the place where Grant took his army when he left Corinth, MS in 1862. Grierson’s Raid was launched from there.
Shiloh Battlefield is but a short drive from there, and during many family outings I explored every nook and cranny of the place. At that time, the five siege guns the federals had on the bluffs were still in place and further south was a lone artillery piece where the Confederates shelled the riverboats. The water in the Tennessee River was a clear blue then. The Corinth Road was open to drive into the park and the old hotel there was still open.
The Civil War is in my blood. I had six family members that fought in the war. I authored a book about one of them who was a surgeon in the Army of Tennessee. For ten years I participated in Civil War reenactments as a battalion medical officer in the North/South Alliance.
I am looking forward to sharing what I know about the conflict, and until then,
