Welcome back to TOCWOC - A Civil War Blog and thanks for reading!

I am watching The History Channel’s new program, Extreme Marksmen tonite. Lots of amazing shots using everything from bows to artillery, but if you are interested in long-range sniping there is a sequence showing a couple of Army snipers doing a 1000 yard shot using a modern M24 sniper rifle, as well as a short sequence showing the development of the modern rifle. We hear a lot about thousand yards shots and there are plenty of claims from the Civil War, but this will give you a practical idea of just how hard it is to actually do, even with modern equipment. It’s showing on a couple of other days this week as well.
