The Good guys win one for a change

I didn’t realize till today that it has been a VERY long time since I posted here. I have been so busy with new job, the two books and then well just life that I forgot to post here.

During a trip to Gettysburg for a special preview of the New Visitor Center as a member of FNPG, I also visited the battlefield. Just before we headed home, we road past the George Spangler farm.

For those who are not familiar with it, thats where the 11th Corps of the Army of the Potomac’s hospital and other rear elements of the Corp where during the battle. Its also the place where Lewis Armistead, brigade commander under George Pickett was taken after the conclusion of the PPT assault. He had been wounded at the time it was thought not severely. Placed in the door way of the still standing barn to await treatment he died.

There were SOLD Real Estate signs next to the driveway. To make a long story short, the Gettysburg Foundation announced recently it had bought the 80 acres with the full intention of donating it to the NPS.

This is very historic and hallowed ground. And yes it is a win, a big one at that for those of us who deeply cared about the preservation of this hallowed ground.
