The Haunting (1963)

The Haunting is based on the Shirley Jackson novel "The Haunting of Hill House". It is an atmospheric black and white tale about four people who come to Hill House to see how the insinuation that ghosts are around might affect normal people. The group does not get what it expects, and instead, the terror that lurks in Hill House tries to drive them all mad. This is psychological horror at its best. You don't have to see the monster constantly to be scared. I much prefer this original version to the late 90's one. This is one of my favorite movies. I like to bring it out around Halloween, and I tend to watch this along with the Vincent Price movie House on Haunted Hill.
