Comments: Let me mention that the director of Jeepers Creepers, Victor Salva, is a convicted child molester. However, he has served his time and to me that should not factor into whether or not I watch (and decide to like or dislike) his movies. This film had a great beginning, but steadily got worse as the movie progressed. It for the most part is a typical teen horror flick, but at least Salva had some interesting ideas. I'll try not to give too much away, but the song "Jeepers Creepers" makes horrifying sense after the closing scene of the film. Trish and Darry (Philips and Long) are a brother and sister heading back home cot their Mom's house from college, and they are taking a back way home. While on a long stretch of deserted highway, they are run off the road by a very large, ominous-looking Mack truck with the license plate BEATINGU. Unfortunately for them, that truck contains something no one ever wants to face, a monster who only comes out every 23 years, and humans are on its menu. The monster, who apparently likes to also sniff whitey-tighties(!), targets one of the teens, and Trish and Darry try to save themselves from this thing. There are definite plot holes, and the old fat psychic lady seemed like a throw-in with no real redeeming value. With that said, there were some genuine scares, and I liked the idea of this one. As I find myself saying with a lot of horror movies lately though, the execution wasn't all it could be, especially after that intriguing first half-hour. I'd rent this one for sure, and I bought it and did not regret it. |
