Comments: The "granddaddy teen-slasher flicks" according to Roger Ebert, Halloween is essential viewing. This is one of John Carpenter's very best movies, and probably THE best in most people's eyes. The only reason I gave this a 9 instead of a 10 is that I'm not a huge fan of the slasher sub-genre. You have to have been living in a cave or in some 1950's underground nuclear fallout bunker somewhere not to have heard about this classic. Michael Myers (aka The Shape) stalks poor Laurie Strode (Curtis) on Halloween night years after killing his sister as a little boy. The Horror genre was never the same after Halloween, and unfortunately many subpar imitators came about after 1978. If you are going to pick this up on DVD, I highly recommend the 25th Anniversary Divimax Edition, which I have linked to at Amazon.com above. Get this movie and watch it repeatedly. You won't be sorry. |
