Comments: I really liked Ginger Snaps. This Canadian take on Lycanthropy centers on the Fitzgerald sisters, Bridgette (Perkins) and Ginger (Isabelle). These two are a little weird, and they love staging scenes of torture and death. The two sisters are pretty unpopular at school, and they have run-ins with the popular girls. One night Ginger gets bitten by what looks to be a werewolf, and she and Bridgette struggle to keep her new "gift" a secret. Ginger's transformation into a werewolf mirrors her oncoming attack of puberty. While most kids only have to deal with puberty once, Ginger's "gift" is like adding a whole new level to her changing body. This movie is a must-buy for fans of Werewolf flicks, and everyone else should at the very least give it a rental. I myself will be buying the two direct-to-video sequels (one is actually a prequel) on the strength of this movie alone. I enjoyed this film greatly and it is a solid part of my collection and stands proudly alongside The Wolf Man, An American Werewolf In London, and The Howling. |
