Comments: Buffy The Vampire Slayer is my second favorite TV show ever, and a very close second to the X-Files, I might add. I have my next-door neighbor to thank for getting into this show. I had seen the movie and thought it sucked big time, so when Joss Whedon was again in charge of the show, I decided to not even give it a chance. Big mistake. My neighbor told me about it after a few episodes of the first season on the ride to school one day, and I decided to give it a chance. Three things jumped out right away. One was Sarah Michelle Gellar. I don't get the people who say she can't act. If you watch her throughout this series, I think you'll have a definite appreciation for her as an actor. Two was the excellent cast of Buffy's friends, aka "The Scooby Gang", headed by Nicholas Brendon as Alexander "Xander" Harris, Alyson Hannigan as Willow Rosenberg, and Anthony Stewart Head as Giles, the Watcher of Buffy. And third was the fact that Joss Whedon was not given full reign on the movie. The man is brilliant as far as I'm concerned, and when he was finally given sole direction of his idea the show was immediately much more successful and interesting than the movie. I'm in the middle of watching Season 6 (I didn't get UPN when Seasons 6 and 7 were shown), and there is not one bad season among them. Season 1 was more "monster of the week" episodes, but the main villain at the end was awesome. As the show progressed, the Scoobys and Buffy moved from High School to College, and even on to the real world. Some excellent new characters were added over the life of the show, from Seth Green as Oz to Michelle Trachtenberg as Dawn. I won't say more because I don't want to give anything away for those of you who haven't seen it. All I can say is, get it! This show was smart TV, and gave a good mix of horror, comedy, and drama. |
