October Dreams: A Celebration of Halloween |
|
| Comments: October Dreams is an excellent compilation of short stories involving Halloween. Many famous horror authors are involved, including Dean Koontz, Poppy Z. Brite, Peter Straub, Ray Bradbury, Steve Rasnic Tem, Thomas Ligotti, Jack Ketchum, Richard Laymon, Caitlin R. Kiernan, Kim Newman, and Ramsey Campbell. Koontz' initial story about a man who sells jack o' lanterns who give the buyer what they deserve will stick with me for a long time. In addition to the short stories, the authors give little anecdotes about their favorite Halloween, and articles about Halloween are scattered throughout the book as well. One of the editors is the excellent Richard Chizmar, of Cemetery Dance Publications fame. The man is a genius, and I invariably love anything he touches. For anyone into horror short stories, this book is a must-buy. 672 pp. |
