Mammoth Book of Best New Horror Vol. 10

Comments:

The Mammoth Book of Best New horror series edited by Stephen Jones is for the most part chock full of good scary stories. However, I have come to find that Jones favors British horror authors, and I sometimes come away from some stories thinking "WTF was that?", and not in a good way. As of Halloween 2004, I am half way through Volume 10. I have all of the volumes from Volume 8 to the latest volume, and starting with Volume 10, I plan on giving each story a rating out of 10 and a brief comment. After I have gone through, I will re-read Volumes 8 & 9, and the part of Volume 10 that I have already read. My ratings for the last few stories in Volume 10 are below. I will now read through volumes 11-15, and then start back over to get the stories I missed from Volumes 8-10. 489 pp.

"The Boss in the Wall: A Treatise on the House Devil"
by Avram Davidson & Grania Davis
8/10
Comment: Get a cat. They hate cats. Keep a fire. They hate fire. And lastly, never get between them and the wall.

"Objects of Desire in the Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear"
by Harlan Ellison
3/10
Comment: Look at the Green Light.

"Mr. Clubb and Mr. Cuff"
by Peter Straub
9/10
Comment: All is in order, all is in train. It only hurts for a little while. Change is the first law of life.
