Sharpsburg

Tom Hicks

This battle occured near Sharpsburg, Maryland on September 17, 1862 and is known as the bloodiest day in American history with over 23,000 casualties. Tom has created an entirely new version of Antietam, so this is not just a straight conversion from BGN. Also note that there is currently no A/I, so the game must be played against a human opponent. You need to have Ken Miller's leaders.bmp file installed for the game to play correctly.

Roanoke Island was the first of Battle of Burnside's North Carolina Expedition of 1862. It resulted in a resounding Union success and the Union had a foothold along the Carolina Coast from this point on in the war.

New 03/09/05

Rolf Hall
On March 11, Brig. Gen. Ambrose E. Burnsideís command embarked from Roanoke Island to rendezvous with Union gunboats at Hatteras Inlet for an expedition against New Berne. On March 13, the fleet sailed up the Neuse River and disembarked infantry on the riverís south bank to approach the New Berne defenses. The Confederate defense was commanded by Brig. Gen. Lawrence Branch. On March 14, John G. Fosterís, Jesse Renoís, and John G. Parkeís brigades attacked along the railroad and after four hours of fighting drove the Confederates out of their fortifications. The Federals captured nine forts and 41 heavy guns and occupied a base which they would hold to the end of the war, in spite of several Confederate attempts to recover the town.
