The first campaign in the east ultimately split the western counties of Vriginia into a new state. George McClellan and Robert E. Lee both got their starts in this area. Battles include Rich Mountain, Cheat Mountain, Philippi, Gauley Bridge, Carnifex Ferry, and Camp Allegheny.
